Alexander Wang is my idol.  This collection represents EVERYTHING that is high fashion sportswear (as discussed in the previous post – dream job). New take on classic sportswear – with a twist on a mix of collegiate, 70′s, and uniform.  Lust at first sight – I die!

“Anyone can get all dressed up and glamorous, but it is how people dress in their off days, that are the most intriguing.  It’s during these in between wayward days when a person’s true style emerges from their everyday life, forming the basis of Alexander Wang’s Collection where clean, classic, luxurious and refined silhouettes are introduced to an urban street provocative ideal.” - from his bio

If I had a genie… I would wish to have a career like Stella McCartney.  Her versatility & creativity is noteworthy.  Here is a super-brief bio of Stella McCartney.  She was born in 1971 her father is former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and mother is late photographer and animal rights activist, Linda McCartney.  Her career began with choice label Chloe (ahhhhh) from 1997 – 2001.  In 2001 she collaberated with Phoebe Philo at Gucci…. I believe her line Stella McCartney was launched in 2005 (which I have posted about a few times – to say the least it is sexy, sophisticated, & smart)…  Then she got sporty…

She also launched a joint-venture line with Adidas, establishing a long-term partnership with the corporation in September 2004. This line is a sports performance collection for women.[9] The collection includes apparel for swim, gym, running, tennis and wintersports, as well as bags. McCartney’s favorite pieces in the collection come with a special reflector keychain.[citation needed]. In early 2006, the keychain was in the shape of a pink heart and in later 2006, it was in the shape of a gray wolf’s head. In January 2007, Stella McCartney announced that she would be adding a branch called Gym Yoga to her sports range for Adidas. Gym Yoga spring/summer 2007 collection is inspired by ballet and dance uniforms. The collection features double-layered tank tops with deep necklines, low waisted skinny trousers and lightweight rubber shoes.[10] Her Adidas contract was extended until 2010. (source: Wikipedia)

The more and more thought I put into my career path (in fashion design) the more I am SURE that I want to design high end sports wear…  I am so inspired by movement, dance, athleticism, the body (for those of you who don’t know Human Physiology – Kinesiology was my major at the University of Colorado &  have danced/ran/backpacked/skiied my entire life)…  there is a gap in the market for women who want to be active and also have style.  Daily wear (or even pieces you can wear to the office) that are adaptable to any situation day to night, gym to work…  the problem with a lot of athletic wear is it looks too sporty… Why not more prints?  Think Diane Von Furstenburg, Missoni, Etro, Zimmerman or Ikat, florals & tribal prints!!!! ETC – something with a bit of femininity & sass.  Designer athletic wear…

My dream job (at the moment – subject to change) would most definitely be to design for Nike like Stella McCartney does for Adidas – Nike is my preferred gym wear (Also addicted to lululemon)  Blah blah blah – certainly boring you at this point – so onto the visuals.  Pictures of my athletic staples of the week & inspirations from Stella McCartney, Nike, & Lululemon…

This post transitions in order from high fashion –> sportwear

This Collage is a brief glance at the direction I would want to take women’s sportswear…  athletic clothing that looks high fashion but is made out of comfortable stretchy materials that breathe – that can be thrown in the wash and dry easily…  I want to work to design things that are reversible that have secret pockets/pouches to put keys and money in…

cut & draping ideas i like for future designs –  (images clockwise – starting center zimmerman, etro, zimmerman, stella mccartney, zimmerman, lanvin, etro)

fabric designs that would be amazing to work with – I am a sucker for prints – delicate & bold (tribal!)… but envision on a light weight athletic material (think nike/lululemon… but even thinner – possibly translucent) I believe the material I like is called albon.  Now for some real sportswear ideas…

^source: MetalicusMove this top is awesome – you can’t see in the picture but it has a neat opening in the lower back…

^ nike athletic tanks & what i like about them… Nike Woman’s Tank hoodie – love the magenta one for it’s hood, Nike Draco – the print & cut, Nike Scrimmage – large arm holes…

Nike Dharma Yoga Coverup

Lululemon Energize Pant

Lululemon training pant light – SOOOOO neat!

^ my staples…nike top (think the tracing trend/design is very cool)  & tank by surfer brand Square One (My vision for this one is surfer/Bondi styling think of a Erin Wasson inspired athletic outfit…)

^ Chanel headband that keeps hair off of face & Vintage Nike Running top – found at a vintage consignment store and am not sure when it was made – What appeals most to me is the mesh fabric that covers the stomach… It breathes and also adds a bit of edge which I like!

(I realize this post is kinda spastic the point is athletic wear can be pretty & versatile with new fabrics and cut)

My last mission in the kitchen was homemade chicken pot pie… For some reason it was nowhere to be found in any of the Aussie cookbooks!!! (Weird because Australians are obsessed with Beef pies :P which kind of sicks me out because it is just beef, catchup, and pie crust – ick)  So I winged it… and it turned out gorgeous (well at least tasted) ! Yay for experimental cooking…

this is it (click to enlarge)  photos compliment of Bec – thank you!

Chicken Pot Pie! (affordable – total cost was about $25.00 – serves 4+ – cooking time about 1 hour)

What you need:

cooking oil (I used walnut oil)

4 garlic cloves crushed

2 chicken breasts

generous amount of Thyme (2 tbs+)

veggies of your choice diced to your preferred size (I used mushrooms, carrots, potatoes, peas, corn, capsicum aka red pepper, onion celery, broccoli, & cauliflower… in 1/2 inch pieces)

Chicken stock

Creamy Chicken soup (I used cambpells low fat)

Pre made crust – I discovered a gourmet sour cream flavored crust that I suspected would be a good flavor pairing

Directions -

Dice vegetables, rinse, & set aside.  Sprinkle with Thyme & a dash of cooking oil.

Follow Pie crust directions (pre bake so crisp)

Cut raw chicken into small bite size pieces.

Lightly cover a sauté pan with cooking oil and the 4 garlic cloves add chicken stock and Chicken – bring to a boil.  Cook Chicken through (about 7 minutes) Remove chicken but keep the stock and garlic boiling in large skillet.

Once chicken is removed add vegetables to boiling chicken stock… cook down for about 20 minutes stirring & making sure heat is evenly distributed.  Turn off heat once vegetables are soft but NOT overcooked.  Let cool for 10 minutes.

Add creamy chicken soup to vegetables and stir… add chicken…

Pour chicken pot pie mixture into the pre made crust serve immediately or decorate crust(as you can see, I got overzealous with a ghetto/simplified version of a lattice crust) and  bake at 170 C for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Season to taste

Bon Appetite!

I adore vintage pieces (clothing, furniture, accessories, anything!) for two reasons 1. the object holds history, memories, sentiments… and 2. It is unique & rare – not everyone will have it or understand its history…  It is becoming a bit of a dangerous addiction :)

Growing up, I never thought twice about the abundance of vintage and costume jewelry my mother stocked in the dress-up drawer. Recently I have been thinking about how unique my childhood (and my sisters) has been thanks to of my mothers passion for design & antiques. Imagine your dad owned a restaurant – you would probably get many a complimentary meal… I am spoiled in this same way – Only instead of dinner I get vintage.

I present to you some of my current favorite vintage jewelry pieces from my excavation.  My mama has an antique store & sells pieces (jewelry, art, furniture, etc) on ebay…  Usually upon arriving back at home (in Arizona) I head straight for the estate sale boxes… This is basically boxes and boxes of TONS of jewelry – It takes me hours to sift through the clutter to find the jewels “I can’t live without” hehe…  After I make my selections it becomes my mission to convince my mom how badly I need & love them (not always an easy task!)

Don’t ask me how or why – but usually I can sell her on my argument ( I don’t think she will ever see this post, which explains my candid chat about my persuasion tactics…)  So let me now present to you my current loves (some I have inherited from my mom as she “outgrows” and others that have found me thanks to fait)

I wanted to shoot these in day light but wasn’t able to make time before sun down… next time the lighting will be better!

^ my mom in pink!

^me and my sister… dress up

Scarab bead (mentioned this in yesterdays post) the scarab was seen as an earthly symbol of this heavenly cycle according to Ancient Eygptian society, Timex wrist watch (my moms), & Red Enamel earrings circa 80′s

circa 80′s

I LOOVEE this ring  made of shell – I pretty much wear it everyday alternating fingers

circa 80′s

circa 80′s

1970′s rose beads (made of real roses- so cool!) They have an unusual texture that I can’t put to words.  Whenever I put this necklace on I channel my inner flower child…

circa 1980′s love because the tassle has been so popular in fashion this season

Broch is 1960s, coral earrings circa 80′s obvs, and the hoops are actually Brady’s moms :) She gave them to me two summers ago and they remind me of her (she is a flower child/free spirit) and when I wear them I get joy thinking of the moments she had wearing them

This is a Monet necklace – Monet originally was founded in Providence, RI in 1929 by two brothers…In the late 1940′s to early 1950′s necklace had an average price of about $12.00 to 20.00 while earrings could be purchased between 4.00 and 7.50… one of my current obsessions…  info sourced from: collectiblejewels.com

Not sure when this is from… It comes in a set with earrings & a necklace – it has flower detailing with coral and turquoise beads – the clasp is broken so it needs some TLC

OMG the 80′s are back :) Clip on mirrored – they actually might be 70′s I should have asked my mama –  I envision them being worn out on the town – STUDIO 54 comes to mind !!!! she only let me have them because the other pair has a stone that fell out – but thanks to glue I am not worried!

ANOTHER FAVORITE – authentic tortoise shell bracelet… circa 1960′s – it is obviously illegal to make bracelets out of tortoises anymore – THANK GOODNESS!

enamel bangles – circa 1970′s – I adore how the insides are coated with a different color enamel

Ivory Clip on earrings – also illegal now – good thing!!! circa the 1960s…

My daily staple – my mom passed this one down to me… it was hers from her 20′s and it probably the coolest thing i own.
