princess diana – international style icon

Let’s take a second to reflect and remember, the ever-so-glamorous, Princess Diana. Everyone probably can recall her wardrobe from special events… a few designers that crafted these one of a kind garments Yuki, Bellville Sassoon, her wedding dress by David and Elizabeth Emanuel just to name a few…
I guess because my recent interest in fashion is more about everyday wear, I wanted to share with you Princess Diana’s daily signature style. Being that she is the definition of an independent and successful woman – while still managing to show the world her personality, grace, and beauty. Princess Diana is a fashion muse worth studying.
In photographs, you can see Diana had go to items/looks. For example, her blazer skirt combination became her professional uniform. The princess is often photographed wearing white and red, white being the color of purity and red being bold and sexual – in a way these colors are a symbolic contradiction :). All style icons have their special trademarks – fabrics, colors, accessories, and pieces that are re-worn and reinvented. Think Jackie O and her oversized sunnies B).
What I love most about Diana’s personal style is that, she is conservative and tasteful while still preserving her sensuality. Our parents generation witnessed her style evolution from preppy school girl to glamazon.
Diana raised money for philanthropies through fashion. In 1992 Christies New York auctioned off 79 of her dresses, raising over two million dollars. Her life and commitments are truly remarkable.
This post definitely compliments the current 80′s trends & Diana’s everyday style

^classic white oxford shirt with high waisted jeans – Diana also wore massive 80′s jewelry (earrings), which I believe will definitely be making a revival shortly

Princess Diana biography in fashion – her style evolution
“Princess Diana was always conscious of dressing appropriately, having learnt to master the art of how to dress diplomatically. She developed a finely tuned sense of the right clothes for the occasion and place. She would wear an Escada coat to visit Germany, a Yuki dress to meet the Japanese Emperor Hirohito, a Chanel suit to Paris. She would always visit hospitals and sick children wearing something bright and cheerful. One particular floral dress created by Bellville Sassoon was her favourite “working dress” for visiting children. Princes Di noticed that it had a particular positive effect on children, who obviously loved the color very much. She wore it frequently over a period of five years in spite of the critical articles in the press about her having worn the same outfit for so long.
Much of what made Princess Diana very popular and beloved by the public was her modern approach to her own life, both public and private. As with the other great style icons of this century, it was Diana’s ability to look cool and chic in the simplest attire.”
we must revisit this again soon…
