I am soooo exhausted, so my apologies that I have been dragging on my posting this week – ha not that it matters!  Excuses aside, I am so excited about my current creative projects…

and in the meantime, I am happy to share some random projects (you may have already seen)  I have documented on my computer

^ this has two ideas I really like.  1 – I have a love obsession peacock feathers.  They are a perfect decorative touch to any room  2- using a vase or container to store letters etc is an easy solution to eliminate clutter…

^ I plan on documenting my latest cooking excursions but I can sum it up here with my new addiction to spice.  Chillies add personality to everything you cook…  I think I enjoy them too much – I burnt my skin on a raw chillie last week!  Lucky for me there is an abundance of amazing Asian food products down under… more to come!!!  oh yes and tropical fruits that are not imported into usa!

Isabel Marant, the French Designer Who Saves Your Time

Isabel Marant, the French designer who conquered the world haute couture scene by mixing bizarre and practical styles, is celebrating her 38th birthday today.

A daughter of German designer Christa Fiedler, Isabel Marant didn’t dream of following her mother’s steps when she was a kid – she preffered playing with her brother to girly stuff and wearing dresses or skirts seamed a nightmare to her then. The only clothes she liked belonged to her father as she found shirts and pants really comfortable.

When Isabel was 15, she asked her parents to buy her a sewing machine to fix her clothes to her liking – she hated to wear the same stuff as others. One day her friend asked her to create a costume, and that is when she began her designer career. In a year, she offered her creations to a commission shop at Halles. Her first collection brought her about 1 000 euros – the sum was huge for the girl her age and she decided to study design seriously.

Having graduated from the Studio Bercot school, she created her own line of jewellery and started to work as assistant to Bridget Yorke at Yorke and Cole. Later she also worked for Marc Ascoli, Michel Klein, Chloe and Yohji Yamamoto, but her style was too bizarre to fit in.

Her mother, who has launched a line of knitted wear, invited Isabel to join her venture and young designer worked for her until she felt she could start on her own – in 1989 Isabel created her collection of jewelry and accessories and in 1990 she expanded her business with womenswear. It is hard not to be lost for the young designer in Paris, the center of the world haute couture, yet in 1995 Marant’s collections first appeared on the runway at Paris Fashion Week. Her debut presentation took place at Salon of prêt-à-porter in Versailles and her original design was noticed at once – she received her first order from Japan and for some time remained more known abroad than at home.

In 1997 she won the Howard Prize and continues to show off her collections every season during Paris Fashion Week. Her clothes, bizarre but practical for everyday wear, is considered to be perfect by both modern French women who manage to be business ladies and mothers at once and teenagers who love her funky style.

In 2003, the company annual trade turnover reached 10 million euro. The garments she created don’t look new, they have a history, just like your old friends and often look stylishly crumpled, worn and shabby; they don’t require ironing to save a precious time of a business woman. Her other secret is mixing styles and cultures to receive a unique design.

In her interview to lexpress.fr, Isabel shares her expectations and love for fashion: “I adore it! [fashion] The best reward for me is the admiration of the women on the streets, especially if she wears the clothes I designed. It moves me deeply. Garment, it is like your second skin, an [integral] part of you. I don’t seek to design clothes with three sleeves, I just wish people like what i do. But dream of fashion, it always comes back to refuse things it eulogized last season. In fact, it is some kind of a game, that reincarnates desire again and again. It shouldn’t be taken seriously. After all, it is just clothes!”

uh oh… I am in a John Mayer phase…

Here is a little something I have been working on…

This past year I have lived a somewhat nomadic lifestyle. In New York City I lived in a room commonly referred to as a “shoebox,” or as my roommate Ryan called it, the “Nappy Ness.” The room was impossibly small to live in for an extended period of time. I could touch every wall in the room if I stood in the center, and my wingspan leaves much to be desired! Organization was a serious problem. In fact, I had no room to arrange my things. Essentially, I was living in a closet. Haha, on a positive note it did make for some memorable sleepovers and was, as my boyfriend calls it, a “character building experience”. In May, while in the process of moving from NYC to Sydney, I was constantly in a state of transit. From babysitting in Connecticut to visiting my family and friends in Texas, Arizona, and California, I was living out of a suitcase for over a month.

After a miserable month on the road, I was tirelessly committed to minimalism. When I moved to Australia I was hell-bent on condensing everything I owned into two suitcases – IF YOU KNOW ME AT ALL YOU KNOW THIS WAS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE! Here I am, two suitcases (and a box or two :D ) later… Even post consolidation, I feel weighed down by material objects. When you are away from home it seems that anything you carry is excessive. During my temporary stay at my boyfriend’s apartment, I immediately knew that the suitcase life was not going to work.  Needless to say, it was necessary to get creative and organized quickly. Believe it or not, I pulled from my work experiences to restructure my personal belongings. Working at BESPOKE in NY, I had the responsibility of organizing the server, where every document was labeled in exactly the same format and had a place. The point is, in order to be systematized every article must have a specific place to be put away. This can be an extremely ambitious task with minimal space or storage. In order to find my possessions a home I decided to get inventive, using purses, pouches, shopping bags, matchboxes, really anything and everything to hide away my things. With that being said, here are some of my ideas that may help bring order into your life! This is my not-so-subtle introduction to my practical designs and ideas. Pardon the endorsement and have a stylish and organized day…

Picture 13^I use each bag/purse like a drawer… they hold everything from underwear to electronics…

Picture 12^ideal for organizing school/desk/craft supplies – also great to put cosmetics in because you can see everything while you are getting ready

Picture 25^ another idea for jewellery storage

Picture 24^This is a great storage solution for important paperwork and reciepts… my mom taught me about this one…

Picture 26

^in New York & Sydney I have used my suitcases as a drawer/chest… if your bed is lofted it is perfect to slide in and out and hides a good deal of stuff!

picture-11^I posted this awhile ago but I thought it fit again in this post – if your traveling and have a laptop, here is a great idea- a little geeky but it is so helpful!  Take a digital inventory of what you are packing.  This will help you put outfits together without rummaging through your suitcase.  If you have a mac you just organize it like a cover flow… this also helped me to see what I had duplicates of and what things I was missing…

Looking over previous posts on my website, the words spastic and zealous come to mind – not unlike me. However, my literal separation from my friends, family and home has positioned me in a new, more refined direction (at least I hope so)! Working for a boutique retouching studio in NYC helped me to harness my organization skills and develop an attention to detail. I am now working for a fashion designer down under and am learning about running a business, the design process and what is timeless. My desire is to utilize these skills and leave you with a lasting impression. I want to share my inspirations and design so that I convey a feeling, a moment and a visual experience that to me is both classic and unique. Obviously, I love what I do :) and I aspire for you to love it too. Who knows what the future holds for me. With some luck, hard work and dedication, I believe anything is possible. Thank you for stopping by.

Almost everyday without fail my lover :P sends me images taken by Aquabumps – the one he sent me tonight motivated me to do a quick post because it was so breathtaking! Tonight’s sunset in Sydney was unreal… at work bright pinks and purples were cast across the studio walls and windows :) and thank goodness aquabumps captured it in its full glory because I didn’t carry my camera!

Bec & Bridge

http://www.becandbridge.com.au/

For those of you who didn’t know, I wanted to do a brief post about my current job! Thanks to Gillian (Love & Lemons fashion designer) I got this unbelievable internship with Bec & Bridge – two warm, trendy and fun-loving Australian fashion designers.

The images below are from their “Palomino Bride” Spring Summer 09 10 runway show and look book. The images and clip about their “story” and birth of their company I took directly from their website.

I am in heaven at my new job, where arts & crafts supplies are bursting from every nook and socializing is not only permitted but encouraged. I am also grateful to be working and learning with such young talented business-savvy women.   Bec & Bridge’s company and accomplishments continue to grow exponentially annually.  I am excited to share their future designs here with all my friends – yay!

They have really sexy/edgy clothes that are available in boutiques and via the internet
